Australian band Northlane have left numerous fans feeling mixed emotions after the much anticipated release of their new single ‘Citizen’ this morning.
Northlane have been through the ringer with their fans since their debut onto the Australian music scene in 2009. Original vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes departing the band in September of 2014 and new frontman Marcus Bridge taking his place certainly being one of the main causes.
Mixed reviews can be found in the comment section of the new video on YouTube, some fans being supportive and embracing the new sound, while others are asking for ‘the old Northlane back’.
Admittedly, the new song sounds nothing like the first studio album ‘Discoveries’ that Northlane released back in 2009, but is encasing a vocal range such as that of Marcus Bridge really such a crime? Bands change their sound all time. We’ve all watched acts such as Bring me the Horizon do a complete 180 on their original sound, yet they haven’t been met with as harsh criticism.
Give the song a listen below and let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
Northlane are set to tour Australia this May, starting off with Adelaide and then hitting regional towns Ballarat, Geelong, Chelsea Heights, Canberra, Wagga Wagga, Gwynneville, Newcastle West, Coffs Harbour, Miami and Toowoomba. You can find all the details here.
